30 Minutes Guaranteed!

Do you remember when Domino’s Pizza had guaranteed to deliver your pizza within 30 minutes or your pizza was free? We would wait at the door or look out the window when it was getting close to 30 minutes hoping they would be late so we could have a free pizza!!! They did away with that guarantee (too many accidents!) but they still made a mean pizza. Now it’s the other way around. They never seem to be on time! At first we can’t wait for that hot pizza to arrive!!! We look out the window every minute; make sure the porch light is on….. And then impatience hits. Now we are calling wanting to know where our pizza is…… Recently I was comparing the delivery of a pizza to the coming of the Lord. It is interesting to see the similarities. When we first get saved, man the only thing that matters is God! We start out REALLY looking for his return. But somewhere along the way, maybe when we don’t get what we prayed for, we go back to the routine of life. Sad but true. What if we went back to the level of expectation we had at first? Living every moment of every day like He could come back at any time? Here’s the truth; He could come back at any time. And we really do need to be ready. So let’s put our order in again! Start looking out the windows; make sure the light is on! Don’t miss out. Pizza, Pizza!

What's Your Image of God?

Have you ever stopped long enough to ask yourself the follow question: What does my image of God look like? You might think that question is irrelevant. But let me suggest that this image you and I hold will contribute to how we not only live but our outlook on life overall. Let me explain. I remember growing up thinking that God wanted to reward me for my obedience (my actions) and punish me for my disobedience. Ok, I hear you saying "well, isn't that what the bible says?" While it is true that God does require our obedience to His Word, let me ask you another question. What is the single most command in the bible is? Is it "do not sin?" How about "be good and live a holy life?" No. The single most given command in Scripture is "fear not." Wow! I wonder why? The scholar N. T. Wright suggest that of all the commands given by God this one "is the hardest of all to keep." And looking back over my life I can see just how true that is. Could you imagine living a life without fear? Without looking over our shoulder just waiting for something to go wrong? That is the life God wants us to live! And He has made it possible to live that way through His son Jesus Christ. Let's begin today. Let's begin to take God at his word and when everything seems to be going wrong, "fear not!" Try it for a week. See what happens. Stop worrying about doing the wrong thing that will bring down God's wrath and let's start living without worry! I'll be waiting to hear the reports!

New Beginnings

I can't believe it! Finally I have made the transition to the 21st Century by creating a blog! So what is this all about? For me a new journey has begun as my wife and I recently re-located to Alabama for a sabbatical due to some health issues. I must say that all new journeys seem to create a bit of excitement along with questions. What is going to happen now? How are we going to make it? Have I really heard from God? But I have found over the years of my journey that God has never failed to answer any of these and countless other questions. So let me begin this journey by saying I pray this blog will help many others who are on or considering starting a journey of your own. Together we can learn, rejoice, laugh and even cry as we journey towards becoming a true follower of Christ. I plan on trying to blog on something either I have gone through, going through or don't want to that might help everyone who follows this journey. Please help my by letting us know about your own journey whether good or bad. I believe that together we can make a difference in our respected communities. Ready? Here we go.....
